With the opening of the New Year, many artists like to evaluate what kind of work they’re creating, what kind of sales they’re earning, and what kind of techniques they’d either like to try or learn. That’s where this question comes in:
“Why do I have that?”
Rifle through your art supplies and, while you’re at it, organize your space. Set aside each item that doesn’t seem to belong in with what you’re used to creating. As mixed media artists, many different items tend to land in workspaces with the hopes for use. And, yes, there is that conception that it will all eventually be used. However, there are times when something lands in there and we don’t know why.
Here’s your challenge:
With the items (or pile of items) collected during your search (or organization spree), create something from one or all that’s in front of you. This will require some planning, some thinking outside the box, and possibly the need to learn new techniques. This is perfect when considering goals for the New Year. Not only will you be able to cross some goals off your list (organize space, evaluate what you’re creating, and learn a new technique), but you’ll be utilizing materials that could have been sitting around your space for a long period of time.
