Using Nature to Decorate

We’ve been trying to come up with creative ways to decorate each of the kid’s rooms. They’ve been coming up with all sort of interesting ideas that, of course, involve making art projects. It’s so exciting seeing these budding young artists putting their creative talents to use in their own spaces.

Right now, we’re placing focus on creative ways to display their favorite photography. There are a number of candid shots each child likes having in their room and, rather than placing them in a regular frame we’re thinking outside the box.

Outside of our home, we have what’s called pebble city. Yes, lots and lots of rocks. We’ve been collecting pebbles the size of coins to embellish picture frames with. Some of the rocks will be painted, while others will be left natural. These scavenger hunts for the “perfect” rocks to use in their rooms have been a very gratifying experience for the kids.

In addition to the rocks, I’m going to pick up some marbles and gems to mix in. I also have some very fine glitter dust to shake on to the glaze when we’re sealing each frame. That way, the kids will have a lot of options to think about and use in their creations.
