Holiday Cards

Every year, the same question comes up about holiday cards. How often are they made? How far in advance should artists start?

There's a lot of opportunity for making very complicated and simple holiday cards, alike. Choices of styles range from using scrapbook supplies, to using rubber stamping techniques, to using acrylic paints. Because we're in the mixed media art topic here at suite101, I'm interested in what kind of mixed media holiday cards everyone makes. What forms of media do you mix up during the creation of your cards?

This year, my kids and I are going to be taking old Christmas cards and recycling them into new pieces of art. Supplies we'll be using are:

  • old Christmas cards
  • glitter glue
  • seed beads
  • ribbons
  • stickers

Each year, we try to bring a handmade element (cards, gifts, ect.) to the holidays. Without fail, handmade snowflakes (yes, with mixed media elements!) and paper chains are part of these handmade traditions.
