Schools Do Not Educate

If you read my articles you may think that I am a quiet professor that does not make waves. Well THINK again! I am active in causes that I believe in and one of them is the stupefying and corporatization of today's youth and young adult's minds.

While there are many books on this subject and scholars that are discussing this very topic generally it seems to be a taboo topic, but this week on IFC's 'The Henry Rollins Show' Mr. Rollins and Guest Chuck D of Public Enemy chat about this very subject.

As a teacher I hear "Is this going to be on the test?" all the time. It makes me angry because I know that these young adults are just following what they have been trained to do by the schools.

Did you know that schools were planned to control the mass populationin a scientific manner? Did you ever consider that schools are intended to produce "through the application of formulae, formulaic human beings whose behavior can be predicted and controlled?" (Why Schools Don't Educate John Taylor Gatto, 1990).

Now think about what the corporate world can do with a person that is trained (think Ivan Pavlov) to not think but follow orders, like an automaton. I feel sure that if you hear a school bell, you still have a systemic response to it, I know I do. How easy is it to turn a well-trained, student into a well-trained consumer? Just look around and inward and you will see why I and others are so angry.

If you have not watched this show I suggest that you take a moment to tune in and check it out. The Henry Rollins Show on IFC and hear what is being said, and then THINK FOR YOURSELF about it.

Keep thinking,

William
