It's Labour Day - which means many things. For most, it is seen as a return to routine after a summer holiday OR a wonderful new beginning (new classes, new school, new job) - and that the Fall has traditionally started (yes, it is not the official Fall, but a mental feeling, if you will). Many cultures and religions honour their new year/new beginnings during the fall season.
As a Career person, though, as you celebrate this weekend - please remember - that without the unions, you would not even have a weekend. And of course, without business/bosses/management, you would not have a job.
There is no "right side" or "correct position" when talking about unions and management - what should be strived for though, is tolerance and working together, (and hope for understanding) - that without each other nothing would be accomplished - at least, not in the sense of a true and fair economy and a basic standard of living to be shared by all.
No matter what side of the business you are on - always remember - a fair day's work for a fair day's pay. And this includes how you treat those around you.
I've been on both sides, and have been trained/participated in Management/Union negotiations. I take Labour Day seriously - as a time to enjoy, to sadly say goodbye to summer, and to get my head straight for the coming year.
And I remember to salute all those before me who toiled, sweated and stood firm in their belief for fairness - so that I could have today off to enjoy.
