Is Virtual Admin for you?

Nobody cares, cause I'm alone and the world is having more fun than me. - Simple Plan - I'm Just a Kid

Yep, as a Virtual Admin - the line from this song is EXACTLY how you will feel at times. Your contact with the outside world is limited to online for the most part - remember, phone calls cost long distance charges, online is part of your monthly payment for internet, and not everyone has a mic on their computer system.

Don't get me wrong - there are a lot of plusses for working online or virtual (be it admin or programming or whatever) - you don't have to be dressed in office attire, you can schedule your own work day around your clients' needs, and you don't have to go out in the lousy weather.

You do have to still be "at the office" at certain times for your online clients, you must meet deadlines, and you cannot tell someone else to do your work. Yep, no calling in sick anymore!

Can you manage your time? Do you stick to your work schedule? Can you motivate yourself? Can you handle major problems and still meet client demands? Do you have a back up plan for the tight times of no or little contracts?

Then being a Virtual anything might work for you.

But it is lonely - and you will miss the office banter and antics of strange personalities having to work together. The way around it is to have some local contacts so you have an excuse to get out to lunch - yep, that does mean take them to lunch, an expense, but well worth it for your sanity and possible future contracts.
