Yep, I did it - took those assessment tests to see what was out there. And for those of us not willing to part with our hard earned dollars, or not having much to spend on these kind of "tests" - the pickings are slim.
All had great sites - well presented, well thought out. Great writing - great teasers. But not great enough to get me to part with what they want - the money.
Even my favourite site - Monster - was a disappointment. Their self assessment link took me to a "tickle" - a site devoted to getting you to invest time in what seems to be great tests - and once you are hooked - give you a very brief (if at all) result - with the promise of your full report with your payment. I've done one of those before - got sucked into those IQ ones you see advertised on the web (and here as well) - lot of time - and was very disappointed to find out NOTHING but my score without any explanation - not even if it was out of 100 or 200 or whatever (and no, it was not my IQ score given).
My advice? Save your money. If you want a real assessment - go to your local career centre - if they don't do assessments - they'll have a list of reputable places that do. Go see the people. As well, many Employment Agencies/Headhunters will provide assessment tests - often free or for a small fee if you are joining their company as a client.
Or do your own legwork and assessment, as documented in the last three articles. Then use the money you saved and treat yourself to an ice cream - you deserve it!
