The Real World begins production in Sydney, Australia for its nineteenth installment. The reality TV show is often credited with jump-starting the genre. Each season, the series heads to a new locale. So far, The Real World has taken seven strangers and thrown them in houses together in places like New York, Chicago, Seattle, Philadelphia and Austin.
Currently, The Real World Denver is airing on MTV and is the most popular show on cable among the 12-34 demographic. So far, 74 million people have tuned into the Denver edition.
Lois Curren, executive VP of MTV Series Entertainment had this to say in a company press release, “The Real World’s global appeal has always been about giving the audience access into the lives of the diverse cast of characters as they deal with living in a foreign environment, and we’re happy to take the show abroad for the next season. The rich, dynamic culture of Sydney is the perfect backdrop for a new season that will undoubtedly satisfy its loyal fan base as well as attract legions of new viewers.”
In other Real World news, Jewel, the world-famous singer who’s currently appearing as the host of Nashville Star, told the New York Daily News that she once had an opportunity to be on the show. She declined the offer because she “didn't want to be known as the girl from The Real World.” Ouch!
