Horror Films Coming in October

Recently released in theaters is Quarantine, starring Dexter's Jennifer Carpenter. This appears to be a re-make of the Spanish movie Rec, focused on a quarantined building in which people are mysteriously turning into savage zombie-like creatures.

The film is shown through video footage found at the scene, a la Cloverfield, and promises an intense atmosphere (albeit in an industry where promises are just part of the marketing programme). Something tells me that Jennifer Carpenter will be well-suited to roles in horror films, but it remains to be seen if this is the right film for a talented actress. See the IMDB entry for fuller details or watch the trailer on ComingSoon.net.

There are three full reviews of Quarantine currently available on this site and can be seen here - 1,2,3.

Two other horrors due this month are Trick 'r Treat and the fifth installment of the Saw franchise.

Trick 'r Treat adopts the angle of telling four interwoven stories on Halloween night, featuring a cast that includes Brian Cox, Dylan Baker and Anna Paquin. It's due release on the 31st and a trailer can be seen on Youtube.

For what it's worth: it looks okay.

As for the Saw film, it's a franchise that seems to be gathering more than it's fair share of fans, with many of them insisting that the series has improved dramatically since the first film. Having only seen the first film at this point (bad script, bad acting, bad directing - not the three things you want to get wrong in any film), I can't give an opinion on the sequels either way (but will give them a chance at some point).

Anyway, Saw V is due release in the US & UK on October 24th and it's official trailer - really more of a teaser - can also be found on Youtube.
