September is Apple Month

Many people know that apples are the best in the fall. September is Apple Month, which gives us a good reason to prepare healthy snacks with this vitamin-loaded fruit. Here are some facts about apples, and some great ways to serve them as snacks to your tween.

  • Two pounds of apples is enough to make a 9-inch apple pie.
  • There are approximately 2,500 different varieties of apples grown in the U.S.
  • Most apples are picked by hand.
  • The largest apple ever picked weighed a whopping three pounds.
  • Approximately 36 apples will make one gallon of apple cider.
  • Apples were referred to as winter bananas by the colonial settlers.
  • There are just 80 calories in a medium apple.
