My family and I took a trip to the mountains today. It was absolutely breathtaking and beautiful to see the leaves changing colors. The crisp yellows, oranges, and reds were quite a sight to behold. We try to take a trip to the mountains each year when the foliage is turning (mid-late October), but some years we don't make it, and it makes us that much more eager to see it the next year.
My husband managed to get a shot of my oldest boy standing under a huge boulder to make it appear as if my son was holding it up. What a funny thought. There are so many things in this world that we believe are so much more powerful than us, but we can still pretend that we are the most powerful ones. Well, the truth is that we are more powerful than anything else on the earth. We are living, breathing, thinking, and rationalizing people with functional minds, and we should never take what we can do for granted.
I tried to make that fact very clear to my children today while in the mountains. I don't want them going through life believing that there are some situations where they have to cower in fear, or just accept defeat because of something more powerful than they are. They have the same ability to think and overcome things that are thrown their way as anyone else, and I don't ever want them to think that they don't have the same rights as any other person on this earth! I love them too much to let that happen.
The power of positive thinking is a very strong force. You can't move a mountain! I encourage you to let your children know that same thing today!
