Singing bowls

There are other instruments which can bring our chakras and our bodies into alignment (including the human voice!), but singing bowls are some of the oldest and best known.

I was waffling over whether to attend one of my holiday parties this year... but when I heard that someone would be performing with singing bowls, I knew I had to go. The real “performers” last night were the approximately two dozen metal alloy bowls laid out across three tables, in turns struck and rolled by a trio of human musicians.

After their performance, which was directed to help everyone in the room manifest our goals, I made a beeline for the stage. I was delighted to have the chance to speak with the two men and one woman creating these amazing sounds, and to play some of the bowls myself and experience their effects on the chakras up close.

One of the bowls resounded at a very low note, to ground the root chakra. Others were tuned to the heart, throat, and other energy centers. Another, inverted over my head and struck very gently, opened my crown chakra in a big, resounding way.

More about the singing bowls coming up in my next article! Edited to announce: And it's up! The article on singing bowls, musical medicine, and singing is Healing with Sound: The Medicine of Music.
