Beyonce’s Weight Loss - Dreamgirls
Beyonce Knowles has brought negative media attention to the Master Cleanse (a.k.a. the Lemon Cleanse) with recent mention of her weight loss for Dreamgirls, the film in which she plays a role based on Diana Ross of Supremes fame.
Beyonce reputedly lost between 14 and 20 pounds during filming in order to show a significant difference in the appearance of her character over a span of time in the movie.
Media reports say she claims to have lost weight so quickly with a "starvation diet” of “cayenne pepper and water” or “maple syrup and water.” Where the master cleanse is accurately represented, Beyonce has made comments about how she felt like she was dying while on the cleanse and about the fatty, processed foods she gobbled after completing it. She quickly gained back all the weight she lost during her cleanse. The media is, of course, slamming Beyonce and her “diet” as an example of starlets and their penchant for anorexia and fad dieting.
This is misinformation about the lemon cleanse at best and sheer ignorance at worst.
The lemon cleanse is not a weight loss fad diet, to be picked up to lose a quick few pounds and then dropped to return to bingeing on junk food. If done correctly, the cleanse eliminates the chemicals, heavy metals, candida and other parasitic organisms that cause sugar and junk food cravings.
It’s impossible to argue with the fact that Western culture has an obsession with thinness that encourages celebrities and people in the public eye, particularly women, to be ashamed of their curves and want to lose weight. Plenty of actresses and pop singers do engage in frighteningly unhealthy diets and no few are anorexic. It’s unfortunate that Beyonce’s flippant interviews have presented the Master Cleanse as just another bad diet craze.
Having done the Master Cleanse twice, once for ten days and once for twelve, I am frustrated and dismayed by Beyonce’s inaccurate description of how the cleanse works and how it feels. When I did the lemon cleanse, I was energized and felt great. While I was happy to return to solid food, I certainly didn’t feel like bingeing afterwards.
I can only assume that she was on a modified version of the cleanse that may have affected how she felt and spoiled the effectiveness of the cleanse for her.
For an overview of the real lemon and maple syrup cleanse, see The Master Cleanse.

I'm not surprised that Beyonce would bring this on herself and the diet. I
have a hard time trusting anyone who wears fur, anyway.

hi all, my name is miina, 37years of age and leave in Namibia (Africa) I
decided to go on the master cleanse diet, but unfortunatelly could not get
the maple syrup instead I got the maple flavoured syrup. It is now my
second day on the diet, but instead of feeling weak, I am rather energized!
this morning I decided to break the rules of the master cleanse by starting
off with a glass of lemon water followd by Miinas own unfamouse Maple
flavoured syrup, caynne peper & lemon juice. For your info, I
multiplied the amount of the lemon from two table spoons to 4 table spoons,
I will post my findings after the ten days and see what results I'll get
with this few changes, but so far I feel good.my email address is
mhangula@walvisbaycc.org.na. (Miina's Cleanse diet, one glass of lemon
juice, maple flavoured syrup, caynne pepper , lemon and in the evening a
cup of lemon&lime tea)

To Miina and anyone reading Miina's prior post:
"Maple
flavoured syrup" is NOT the same as real maple syrup and should NEVER
be used in a lemon cleanse
The only substitute for maple syrup
is agave syrup. Anything else is a real risk to your health.
What you are doing is potentially very dangerous. Please discontinue the
cleanse until you can find real maple syrup or agave.

You are absolutely correct! The Master cleanse is for detox as a means to
ensure health. It also doesn't promote going back to fatty foods with is
full of toxins after completion. Thank you for helping to clear this up for
the public.

This cleanse works differently for everyone. Not everyone is going to have
the same feeling or experience with the the cleanse. I believe some of the
results maybe similar. So if she says felt like she was "dying"
don't call it "sheer ignorance." If it worked for you and you
felt marvelous through out then good for you.
I must admit the
second part of your article did give me some insight on the cleanse and I
thank you for that.

Yes, I was in the whole foods store today buying my ingredients and an
older gentleman was on the aisle buying maple syrup also....he said Agave
nectar is a really good substitute for the maple syrup and is healthier for
you. Is it OK to double any of the ingredients and also can I use 100%
lemon juice as compared to squeezing lemons? Thanks.

Is it ok to work while doing this cleanse? Also, exactly what type of maple
syrup are we talking about? I've read grade 'B' in one article but not sure
exactly what I'd be looking for. I'm from Canada, not too far from Quebec
where we have pure maple syrup, would that be ok? Thanks in advance for
replying.

Hi, my name is Alice and I am beginning the cleanse today. I bought grade A
maple syrup instead of the recommended grade B. Also I would like to know
if you can eat any fruits or vegetables on the cleanse if you get really
hungry.

I did the lemon cleanse for ten days and felt great. My mind and body were
feeling and looking great.although I have to say right after the ten days I
started eating heavy meals not taking into consideration the going back to
eating slowly, so I decided to do it for another four days just to make
sure my colon is not polluted by me so soon.Overall I'm happy with the
results. Its a great and safe way to detoxify and purify your body, and
your life .

I am on day 6 of the master cleanse and have to admit that I am starving! I
am using the right ratios and drinking 6 servings a day and I am hungry
enough to eat the couch. I am sticking with it tho, my energy could be
better but it is not too bad, I find the hunger is making me cranky tho.
