Posted by Victoria Anisman-Reiner The automated list of Natural Medicine articles is becoming a little ungainly, so I'm beginning to compile lists of related articles under sub-topics. Posted by Victoria Anisman-Reiner There are other instruments which can bring our chakras and our bodies into alignment (including the human voice!), but singing bowls are some of the oldest and best known. I was waffling over whether to attend one of my holiday parties this year... but when I heard that someone would be performing with singing bowls, I knew I had to go. The real “performers” last night were the approximately two dozen metal alloy bowls laid out across three tables, in turns struck and rolled by a trio of human musicians. After their performance, which was directed to help everyone in the room manifest our goals, I made a beeline for the stage. I was delighted to have the chance to speak with the two men and one woman creating these amazing sounds, and to play some of the bowls myself and experience their effects on the chakras up close. One of the bowls resounded at a very low note, to ground the root chakra. Others were tuned to the heart, throat, and other energy centers. Another, inverted over my head and struck very gently, opened my crown chakra in a big, resounding way. More about the singing bowls coming up in my next article! Edited to announce: And it's up! The article on singing bowls, musical medicine, and singing is Healing with Sound: The Medicine of Music. Posted by Victoria Anisman-Reiner Since I've been writing for Suite101.com for over six months, now seemed a good time to discuss my feelings on reader comments, especially with regard to the conveniently located discussion forums. I want to remind you that your feedback is welcome - any comments, questions, or suggestions for future topics are much appreciated! You can contact me by starting a new discussion or adding to an existing thread, or by emailing me privately. I love to hear it if you loved an article; but if you feel that my information is out of date or flat-out inaccurate, or something seemed ambiguous and you'd like clarification, I welcome that feedback too. One request, please: Good "nettiquette" suggests that we not "spam" discussion boards with advertising or promotional messages. If you want to spread the word about an awesome service that is connected to my topic, please contact me privately first so I can approve your marketing post and decide whether it connects appropriately with a relevant article. THANK YOU for keeping these boards neat, tidy, interesting, and spam-free! In other news, I posted two new articles yesterday about the traditional chakra system (with a few modern additions!): What are Chakras? and The Seven Major Chakras. Check it out! (And remember to post about your chakra experiences!) Posted by Victoria Anisman-Reiner It's generally understood by natural practitioners that homeopathic remedies are meant to be taken without food in order to optimize their impact. The subtle energy "frequencies" of a homeopathic remedy can be disrupted if you put other things into your body within 15 minutes before or after (some say 10 minutes, some 20). When these energies are disrupted, their impact is negated; they work less effectively, or they simply won't work. Drinking coffee and smoking are often said to disrupt homeopathic vibrations within considerably more than the usual 15 or so minutes. Since most people agree that neither of these is doing the body any good, there is little friction over whether they should be entirely avoided... a simple yes is fairly easy to agree upon. I've known people to use a sip of coffee to "treat" someone who's taken the wrong homeopathic remedy, or taken a homeopathic incorrectly. Despite consensus over the effects of food and coffee, certain supplements and natural remedies are more widely debated: namely, essential oils. The oft-maligned step-child of the healing world, essential oils are a real concern when it comes to homepathic remedies. Some homeopaths say that if you're on a homeopathic treatment, you should never use any essential oils. They are simply too strong, and they will totally negate the homepathic remedy's ability to function. Others will tell you that there is no problem or interaction, so long as you use the oils at least fifteen to twenty minutes before or after your homeopathic remedy. The most widely held belief is that essential oils are fine to use, so long as you avoid peppermint essential oil, and eucalyptus and cinnamon, which are so strong they may interrupt homepathic frequencies within 24 hours of use. So what's the verdict? I lean towards the latter two, since I've used homeopathics and oils within close contact and believe that I've experienced the benefit of both. Ultimately, though, it's a decision you and your homeopath have to make for yourselves. Click here for more information on Homepathics remedies and Frequency! |
