Posted by Donna Diegel Eggnog Recipe for the Holidays The holidays are here! YAY! Break out the eggnog! Let's spike it with rum, brandy and bourbon and invite some friends over!
I've been making this homemade eggnog for years. Every year it seems to get better! I'm sure it doesn't, but after a few glasses of this good cheer, I think it tastes better to me! Apparently I'm not the only one either. Whenever I bring this to a party or function, it seems to disappear. Of course, that inflates my ego, and I don't need any help doing that.
Eggnog Made With Raw Eggs Getting back to the recipe...This homemade eggnog is made with raw eggs. In all the years I've been making this eggnog, I've never gotten sick, nor anyone else that's ever had it. That doesn't mean you can be careless with the handling of raw eggs. Only the freshest eggs will do. Make sure to read the expiration date on the egg carton. Eggs need to be refrigerated properly. They should be washed/rinsed prior to cracking them open. Likewise, after you've made the eggnog, the whole jug needs to be chilled and refrigerated before and after serving. If your guests leave their half-filled glasses around on the end tables for any length of time, pick them up, dump them out and serve them a fresh glass of eggnog. Homemade Flavored Eggnog Experiment with flavors. Substitute coffee ice cream and add some Kahlua coffee liqueur. How about some Amaretto or Bailey's Irish Cream? Drink Responsively Have fun, but above all, please remember to Drink Responsively this Holiday Season and always have a designated driver available. |
