Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy

Ashiatsu (ashi means foot and atsu means pressure) is an ancient healing practice. Ruthie Piper Hardee, the creator of Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy, combined what she's found to be the best elements of traditional Thai massage, barefoot shiatsu from Japan, and Keralite massage from southern India. A therapist balances on their clients' backs, using different foot strokes to apply pressure on various points while supporting themselves by hanging onto wooden rods suspended from the ceiling.

Check out this interview with Carol A. Niemi, a practicing registered massage therapist who specializes in Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy.
