No one likes them. It is odd to me to think that we give a gift to our guests that we know most of them won't even like. Why? Because it's tradition.
This is one of those traditions that really needs to be challenged.
Would we give a Christmas gift to someone we know they are not going to like or use?
When we shop for a birthday gift do we make sure it is a gift they will never enjoy?
Then why give our guests a gift at our wedding if we know they are going to just throw it away? How many of those almonds have you eaten?
You can still adhere to tradition by giving your gift in those circles of netting gathered up with a ribbon. It just may mean changing what is inside of the netting.
You can get candy coated chocolate personalized with the couples names and the date of the wedding. But it isn't neccesary to go to that extreme. It doesn't even need to be food. What about gifting netting bags of potpourri.
If you want to move away from the netting bag altogether maybe think about getting a quantity of those mini terra cotta pots and pot each one with a single daisy. Use fabric that coordinates with your wedding to gather up around the pot and tie off with a ribbon.
These gifts are more apt to be used and appreciated by your guests.
