But in this case there is actually a reason for the confusion. The reader made a comment that the article on penny rugs was not actually penny rugs but rug hooking. She was very well versed on how they differ and went on in detail to explain. I am happy to say she is right. I am also sad to say she is in error. How can she be right and wrong at the same time? The problem with the definition of penny rugs is actually not so black and white. It is oddly a regional issue. I have found that in some areas of our world rug hooking only refers to the use of yarn in hooking rugs like those kits that were big many years ago. Using wool in those same areas is referred to as penny rugs. The rugs that she described in some areas are referred to as only applique and not called rugs at all. No matter where you live or what you call them, I think we can all agree that rug hooking, penny rugs and applique are all beautiful and definitely worth the effort.
