Puppet Making

You began the winter with matched sets of gloves and mittens and now you find only a single orphan. You put warm thermal socks into the dryer but only one came out. It's time to recycle the lone gloves, mittens and socks into puppets.

This is a great project for the whole family. The kids will love the creativity as well as the time spent with you.

Gather up any of the materials options listed and add you own ideas along the way. Your puppets can be as elaborate or simple as you choose.

Material Options

  • Yarn
  • Ribbon
  • Buttons
  • Fabric Scraps
  • Felt Scraps
  • Permanent Markers
  • Glitter and Glue
  • Cardboard Scraps
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Beads

Use the markers, beads or buttons to make the face. Once you have the face done, you can decide on the roles your puppet will have. Will they be kings and queens? Will they be animals? They can even be members of your own family.

You can make a permanent outfit or make a whole wardrobe of outfits that can be changed out with the story. Make clothes out of fabric scraps and felt scraps. They can be sewn or hot glued.

Use the cardboard and aluminum foil to make a crown or make it in cardboard and cover it with glitter.

Make hair from the yarn or ribbon. You can use the cardboard to make them purses, cell phones and laptops. It is all up to your own imagination.
