Decorating Easter Eggs

Have you got them all hard boiled? Did you purchase the boxed dye kit with the latest cartoon characters or the ones that are guaranteed to dazzle? There are some easy tricks you can do to add your own individual style to those eggs.

Crayons

Let the kids write their name, draw stripes, polka dots, or any other design on the eggs prior to dying. The wax in the crayon will resist the dye. Because of the wax, the design will remain white while the rest of the egg changes to the color of the dye. You can also dye the egg a lighter color first. Draw on the egg after the first dye. Now if you dye the egg again in a darker hue, the design will remain the color of the first dye while the rest of the egg gets darker. You can do this in gradations and have lettering in more than one color by repeating the process with a slightly darker dye and drawing between each layer.

Rubber Bands

Wrap the egg in rubber bands prior to dying. The band will keep the area free of dye. You can use the same concept as with the crayons. Begin with the lightest color and go darker with each redye. You can add new rubber bands in between to seal a stripe in the current color before adding more dye.

Stickers

Look in your scrapbooking stuff for those left over stickers you haven't used and let the kids go crazy.
