The wonderful thing about indie music is that it attracts and inspires such a diverse audience. Whether you're simply a fan of the genre, or an active participant in whatever forms that may take - musician, promoter, or a simple Feature Writer... - there's always the feeling that, due to the very nature of the music itself, you're a part of it.
Compounding this very fact is the DVD/CD double disc edition of the already critically acclaimed film What Is Indie?, by the Canadian film-maker Dave Cool (and yes, that is his real name!). An irreverent look behind-the-scenes at exactly what it is that separates indie music and musicians from other genres, it includes interviews with such luminaries as Suzanne Glass (Indie-Music.com) and Derek Sivers (CD Baby), as well as artists like Ember Swift and Paul Cargnello. Funny, informative and entertaining, it's a must-buy for any fan of the indie genre. A full review of the DVD will be appearing on Suite101 soon.
