Pulitzer prizewinning author Norman Mailer, 84, died on November 10, 2007 . His first book, The Naked and the Dead, developed on his experiences in WWII. It was published in 1948, when he was twenty-five years old and guaranteed him a position among the giants of American Literature. He was the recipient of two Pulitzer prizes. One for his book The Armies of the Night, which drew on his experiences as a protestor against the Vietnam War. The second for his book, The Executioner’s Song, which was based the life of Gary Gilmore, a convicted killer.
