Workplace Slacker

I have an eerie talent with my new boss for knowing precisely when he’s about to ask for the status on a task. It’s so accurate that I’ll frequently have the relevant document in my hand before the query has even left his lips. He thinks I am magical. Perhaps he is right. Either way, it earned me a raise.

And it comes in handy in regards to managing my workload. I know when something must be dealt with right away, or when I can relax a little and place it on the back burner.

I’ve also learned that this boss is easily impressed by things like organizing a common filing drawer without being asked. A little self-motivation goes a long way in the world of management-employee leeway.

This is my inspiration for this week’s article, Looking Busy at Work. Not that I would ever slack off at work. Me? Nope. But I know some of you might, and because I’m your friend, I don’t want you to get fired, so I offer this advice.

Officially, of course, my advice is that you should be working. At all times. Seriously. Get back to work.

Now.
