Job #37

When last we left our hero, she had to leave her last job due to pregnancy complications. Now that I’m somewhat back on my feet again, I contacted the temp agency to place me somewhere until May (when the baby thing happens). They offered me my old job back, but yet again I’ve become ridiculously picky so I declined. Now I need part-time flex hours, parking, and a job so easy that a monkey could do it.

Miraculously, they had the precise job I was looking for, and I started last week. I’m the admin for an engineering company contracted to upgrade the federal buildings. Since the project is winding down they only need someone part time, and because the boss is cool like that I can pretty much set my own hours. (P.S. This boss strikes me as the type of guy to spontaneously google me, so hi there. Thanks for the decaf.)

I have exactly two co-workers: my boss, and one other guy. There is also a guy who works at night, but the only evidence of him being there are the coffee splatters he leaves. It’s very mysterious, because the guy gets coffee everywhere. Filing cabinets, the copy machine, the floor. I cannot imagine a scenario in which this is even possible, unless he stands around the office doing spit takes. Considering he works alone, this would mean he is a strange individual indeed, and makes me fear him a little. And also dislike him, because he never cleans up his giant coffee splotches, instead leaving them for the rest of us to stare at with disdain.

Speaking of office etiquette, it’s my topic for this week’s column: Office Bathroom Etiquette. Just a few do’s and don’ts for doing business while doing business.

And a Happy New Year to you!
