Going Low-Tech: Hand-Piecing and Quilting

I suppose that technically all sewing machines aren't electric (we have my great-grandmother's old treadle machine, so I know better) but you know what I mean. Did you start out your crafting using a little elbow grease and a needle, or did you go for the auto-option?

Personally, I enjoy hand-piecing and embroidery. I don't enjoy hand-quilting as much but I love the results. I've had people ask me whether these "old fashioned" methods are worth learning or not, and as someone who has learned both the low- and high-tech ways of doing things I'm here to tell you: YES.

With the house in a wacky state of chaotic remodelling at the moment, I can't set up my sewing room until everything settles down and I can devote some time to getting that room remodelled as well. In the meantime I'll be picking up my ol' needle and thread, silk ribbon, aida cloth, and fabric, and indulging in my favourite crafts until I've got my machine in its permanent home.

How about you?
