Federico Garcia Lorca - a Tribute

I made the pilgrimage to Fuente Vaqueros in the Province of Granada, Spain, the birthplace of Federico Garcia Lorca, some years ago and to the place where it is presumed he and his fellow victims were killed and buried - in Parque Fererico Garcia Lorca, between Viznar and Alfacar in Granada, Spain,

The exhibition this week-end, at the poet's summer home in La Huerta de San Vincente in the Province of Granada, Spain, will be a celebration of his life and work, and modern tributes will take the form of photographs, music, sculptures and paintings.

Some of the exhibits I already know about. Spanish sculptor Cristina Inglesias has created a bas-relief that hangs outside his bedroom while on a wall inside the room is a photograph entitled In Bed with Lorca, which shows the U.K's Gilbert & George lying side by side, beneath a painting of the Virgin Mary. Sarah Morris, she of the geometric designs, has painted a canvas inspired by the Moorish tiles in his bedroom, and the American poet and performance artist John Giorno is to perform in the garden of the house where Lorca wrote Yerma and Blood Wedding. Enrique Morente, famous flamenco singer and guitarist will be there to put the deep soul of Granada into the moment.

British artist Tacita Dean will send a postcard from Cadaques in Spain, each day to recall the friendship beween Lorca and the surrealist painter Salvador Dali.

Lorca is an artists' poet, hence the tribute, a genius who inspired others and created an artistic world that encompassed theatre, cinema and the visual arts, drawing inspiration from the countryside and the rich vein of history that runs through Granada.
