Now, don't get me wrong, the South Beach diet is a fine diet. It is healthy, promotes veggies, not too low carbs, and emphasizes healthy fats. In the book, I mean. I also think the diet is fairly easy to implement . I also like that this book was written by a doctor, and he recommends this diet to his clients. The deal with the devil came when Kraft Foods became involved. Some of their foods are far from healthy. They are filled with artificial ingredients and sweeteners. Fractionated palm kernel oil? Where is the olive oil, and the omega 3's? These foods are anything but natural. Isn't that part of the problem.
When profits are on the line, quality gets lost sometimes. Kraft is hoping that we don't read the labels too carefully, and maybe South Beach too. They are "South Beach approved". While I do not think that these foods are the worst on the market, or that for some they would be a huge step up from what they were eating before. They should rid some of these products from over processed ingredients like corn syrup artificial sweeteners and fructose. The bottom line is, if you are on this diet, read the labels. Don't just trust everyone of these products are super great for you. There are some choices that could be better (even if you are on the South Beach diet)!
