HBO's Rome is a epic, dramatic, and amazingly accurate portrayal of the last days of the Roman Empire, circa the late 1st century B.C. Relying on the colorful and often salacious history of the Romans, the show takes us on the journey of how Rome went from Republic to Empire, with fascinating portraits of the characters we've come to know and love from Roman History, including Julius Caesar, Pompey the Great, Mark Antony, Brutus, Octavian, and even Cleopatra. The show also gives us a glimpse into some of the people behind the people, like Atia, Octavia, and Servilia.
The producers of Rome have taken a bit of creative license in their portayals of Pullo and and Lucius Vorenus, hesitant champions for Caesar's cause. While they were actual Roman soldiers, their roles in Roman history have been exaggerated a bit for dramatics. It does not interfere with the core of the fascinating Roman history, though.
Rome premieres Sunday, January 14 at 9 p.m. on HBO. If you love Ancient History, particualrly Rome, don't miss what is likely to be the final season of this highly decadent and addictive show!
