Cord or Precious Metal Chain

The first two articles on how to make this year's holiday jewelry project have been posted.

The third article in the series will give advance directions and also your directions to finish the black cord.

To hang the pendant, you can also use a sterling silver or gold filled chain. Using a precious metal chain will eliminate the need to fabricate the terminators.

Going with the black cord? Ok - where to buy: I checked out my local WalMart. If you do have have access to a WalMart, I am sure these very same selections are available in your local craft store. You can also browse the leather end piece section and the cord and cord tip selection at FIreMountain Gems.

In WalMart's craft department there were two possible cords:

  1. 1mm black leather cord
  2. Black hemp cord (not labeled but appears to be 1mm)

I had some 1mm and 2mm terminators in the shop. I created a point on the hemp cord by cutting it at an angle with a pair of scissors and the hemp fit into the 1mm terminator ideally. The 1mm was too small, and the 2mm was too big for the leather cord. So, if using the leather cord you will need 1.5mm terminators.

I will be researching and posting info on where to buy the terminators in the next couple of days. The use of a clasp will also be necessary with the terminators.
