No matter how familiar I am with a particular gemstone I always do additional research while writing any article to see if there is any updated news about the stone.
Garnet is the classic choice of gemstone for January. I do not work with garnet alot so I was very interested in finding out about color changing garnets.
Apparently there is a variety of garnet, pyrope-spessartine species, that changes color based upon the source of light. Now, all colors do appear as different shades in bright light versus shadow but these garnets actually change hue.
Obviously they are quite costly. This link to the International Gem Society shows a color changing garnet currently for sale.
More color changing garnets can be viewed at Multicolor Gems.
Please be advised, unlike my article on buying jewelry for the holidays, the links to the IGS and Multicolor Gems are not meant as endorsements. I have no knowledge, good or bad, of these two sites. The links to the IGS and Multicolor Gems are provided simply for the images of the color changing garnets.
