It's common knowledge that Los Angeles winters feature more warm days than cold. Thanksgiving is routinely sunny, with the heat of the oven making the temperature seem even warmer than it already is. And the picture of Santa Claus in shorts in such films as "Almost Famous" (in which the main character lives in San Diego)? Not so far fetched.

But this season in L.A. stores, from department stores to boutiques, one would never know they're in sunny-land. Scarves, hats, gloves... all are not only featured, but offered in an abundances of styles and colors.

Does someone have early knowledge for a cold-weather forecast, or are Los Angeles residents just hoping for a more traditional holiday season?

Gladiator sandals, extremely hot for some time, are now starting to seem "so last season." The ubiquitous flat is making a comeback once again -- do flats really ever go out of style? From expensive designer versions to everyday "cheapie" brands, flats can be found in all colors, styles and fabrics.

Unlike heavier shoes, in which patterns can seem overwhelming, simple flats in crazy colors or fabrics look fresh and fun -- anything from zebra or leopard print, stripes or madras, and metallics can jazz up any outfit.

Though six designers showed collections at New York Fashion Week (in order to keep the real three finalists secret), last week's episode of Project Runway finally revealed the three finalists.

For the first time in Project Runway's five seasons, all three finalists are women -- Leanne, Korto and Kenley.

Eager fans have already seen their final collections on the Internet, but this Wednesday's episode will reveal who host Heidi Klum, judges Michael Kors and Nina Garcia, and guest judge and mentor Tim Gunn chose as the top designer.

It's been a tough year for magazines. CosmoGirl!, the third-highest teen magazine, fell 15.5% in ad sales this year (behind Seventeen and Teen Vogue.) Now comes the news that the magazine will end its run with this year's December issue.

CosmoGirl! became popular for its aim at slightly older teens, with an equal focus on fashion and beauty as well as inner strength. It also had Project 2024, its campaign to have a Cosmogirl in the White House by the year 2024.

It will continue its website. Subscribers to CosmoGirl! will receive issues of Seventeen instead.

The magazine's first editor-in-chief was Atoosa Rubenstein, who founded CosmoGirl! after working at adult Cosmpolitan, but the current EIC is Susan Schultz.

As much as I want you all to read my articles and blog posts, I'm not above pointing out other's good work...

In this instance, that would be Stacie Donaldson's back-to-school fashion article, published in the East Wichita News (Kansas).

I'm quite a ways from Kansas, but thanks to the Internet, we can all read her article. I may be a bit biased -- I'm mentioned in the article -- but Donaldson is right on target for fall fashion trends.
