The GOP and Women

Historically, the Republican Party ihas been the party of civil rights. The GOP first championed abolition of slavery and then the rights of emancipated slaves after the civil war, and it also advocated for women's suffrage.

Conversely, the Democrat Party fought bitterly against both rights for slaves and their descendents and against rights for women, including the right to vote.
