Christian-country newcomer Philip Dain Powell will attend his first Inspirational Country Music Week event this year, where he’ll showcase Wednesday, Oct. 14, and perform his debut single, Give A Little Love.
The brand-new tune which is the lead single from Powell’s forthcoming God Is Love album, will be released to radio this month, according to a report from HMG Nashville.
Althought some may call Powell a late bloomer, he’s long been involved in music, but not within the inspirational country arena. He changed his musical path after rallying through a number of hardships in recent years, including a 2007 car accident that required surgery to replace a cervical disc in his neck.
Following the operation wherein a "dissolvable plate" was inserted in his neck, longtime vocalist Powell experienced a “soft and subtle” singing voice that was seemingly not his own.
The normally “loud, beaming voice” that most knew Powell for was one that returned, Powell said, “after praying and praying and praying some more,” not to mention working hard behind the mic at a friend’s studio to restore his former vocal sound. For two months, Powell said, he sang 24/7 and pushed himself until he finally “sounded like the old Phililp Dain Powell that used to be.”
With his voice regained, Powell returned to live performing with a band he used to perform with, Average Joe. However, he soon realized, he said, that the bars and night life weren’t for him; thus, in June 2009 he set out to pursue a new musical path within the inspirational-country genre..
The result is Powell’s upcoming God Is Love CD, a country-meets-gospel effort, and his brand-new single.
