Deep in the Shade, the brand-new CD from Steep Canyon Rangers, was released Oct. 6 on the Rebel Records label, complete with liner notes by recent International Bluegrass Music Award winner and banjo-playing comedic-actor Steve Martin.
With a sound that's rooted in traditional bluegrass, the Rangers' newest effort features mostly original tunes that blend contemporary bluegrass stylings with folk and gospel, as well as old-time country music.
Deep in the Shade is a dozen-song CD that finds the players--Woody Platt, guitar and lead vocals; Graham Sharp, banjo; Mike Guggino, mandolin; Charles R. Humphrey III, bass; and Nicky Sanders, fiddle--calling once more on producer Ronnie Bowman, who's a star-bluegrass singer-songwriter in his own right.
The act's been on tour with Martin as of late, including an appearance at the October IBMA awards show in Nashville.
