Country-recording artists Ricky Lynn Gregg, a former Best New Country Act nominee by Performance magazine, is teaming with Emerson Drive to perform a "Give Cancer the Boot" benefit concert beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at Harris Lake in Longview, Texas.
A party with a purpose, “Give Cancer the Boot” will help generate awareness and provide money that will go directly to the American Cancer Society, a nationwide community-based health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer, according to a press release about the event.
“I am honored to be included in this remarkable event,” said Longview native Gregg in a March 30, 2009, telephone interview from his Nashville home.
"Being from a family that has been affected by cancer, I want to contribute wherever I can, whenever I can,” shared Gregg, whose Top-40 country hits include “If I Had a Cheatin’ Heart,” “Can You Feel It” and “Three Nickels and a Dime.”
Sponsored by Texas Oncology, East Texas Radio Group and Good Shepherd Medical Center, the American Cancer Society fundraiser will be hosted by the area's Cattle Baron’s Ball committee, whose members have collaborated their time, skills and efforts to bring together an occasion that is designed to be fun for the whole family, while also raising money that will help improve the quality of life for cancer patients.
“I believe with more resources, we are coming close to that medical breakthrough,” Gregg said, “I believe with the contributions made from this event, we are even closer to reaching that goal. Please help. Get involved, and thank you.”
