Following a successful benefit concert and silent auction held in his honor Thursday, Aug. 13, Grand Ole Opry member Mel McDaniel has been rushed to a Nashville-area hospital by ambulance, according to personal e-mail received by this writer just after 8:30 a.m. (Central) on Monday, Aug. 17.
McDaniel, 66, was in rehabilitative care following a hospital stay where he was placed in a coma by medical doctors after suffering a heart attack in mid-June.
About $23,000 was raised as a result of the Aug. 13 benefit, which was held at the Nashville Palace venue in Music City, thanks to the efforts of volunteers, fellow Opry and country stars and fan attendance of 650-plus.
No additional news about McDaniel's condition is known as this time. The family and friends of the country performer request prayers for McDaniel at this time.
