Karli Whetstone really, really loves her home state of Ohio. In fact, she wrote and recorded a song to celebrate the unique beauty of the state and the passion Ohioans share for OSU Buckeye football.
The resulting song, appropriately dubbed Ohio, features the famed "O-H-I-O" chant and former Ohio State football star Doug Datish contributes his voice to the recording. Doug has gone on to play with the Atlanta Falcons, Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans in the NFL. He and Karli were friends growing up in Warren, began dating in high school and were married in 2008. (That’s keeping things in the family, I’d say.)
OSU Head Football Coach Jim Tressel has offered his support for the project and Ohio is being played at every Buckeye home football game this season. The song has also become a favorite track for Ohio State fan groups and game-watching parties across the country.
Look for Whetstone in early 2010 as she releases her first album and embarks on a national radio tour. In the meantime, though, folks can listen to her Ohio tune by accessing www.KarliWhetstone.com.
