The Renaissance in Montana

I know that I promised no more Renaissance in the New Year, but two things:

1. It’s not the New Year yet and

2. This was just too exciting to pass up!

If you are in the Bozeman, Montana area, swing by the American Computer Museum on North Seven Avenue and check out their newest exhibit, “Gutenberg: Religion, Science & Literature.” The exhibit, which opened on December 22, celebrates the 550th anniversary of the Gutenberg Press, which revolutionized the learning and thinking in Renaissance Europe.

On display is a 19th century reproduction of the original press, which belonged to the American Bible Society in New York City. Also on display is an original leaf from the original first printed book, the Gutenberg Bible from 1455. Besides the Gutenberg Bible, there are pieces of printing from Shakespeare’s Macbeth, rare bibles from 1550-1613, and early scientific writings of Galileo and Newton.

The exhibit runs from December 22 until mid-March, 2008.
