Autumn is county fair season in many parts of the United States. It is also a popular time to host a Renaissance fair. Renaissance fairs are found From New England to the West Coast. Here is just a sampling of Renaissance fairs held during the month of October.
California
The Shasta Dragonwood Celtic Renaissance Faire in northern California features live sword fighting, kids games, jugglers, magic shows, wandering minstrels and food and drink. A portion of the proceeds benefit local high school drama and literacy programs.
Connecticut
The Connecticut Renaissance Faire runs every weekend through October and Columbus Day. Visitors can dine on exotic foods, such as turkey legs and bread bowl stews.
Iowa
Sioux City, Iowa is host to the Siouxland Riverssance Renaissance Festival. America’s heartland goes back in time with bagpipers, a fairy hunt and even a knighting ceremony.
New Mexico
The Farmington Renaissance Faire is in its eighth year. Held during the third weekend of October, the fair features exhibitions in archery, bookbinding and court dancing, plus much more.
Nevada
Las Vegas isn’t just for gamblers. Every year during the second weekend in October, Las Vegas hosts the Age of Chivalry Renaissance Festival. Dozens of historically accurate guilds show visitors what life was like in olden days.
Pennsylvania
Every weekend during the month of October, the town of Mannheim hosts the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire. Visit the royal kitchens at the faire, and check out these food vendors including The Bishop’s Orchard and The Village Bakerie.
Texas
Everything is bigger in Texas! Check out the Texas Renaissance Festival, held in Plantersville. This is one of the nations largest Renaissance fairs, 54 acres are turned into a 16th century village during the months of September and October.
