Summer Food Safety

Desserts and baked goods generally aren't a concern when considering food safety, but it's still important that you know the basic rules.

Any perishable food, like cream, milk, eggs, custards, whipped cream, can only be left out of refrigeration for 2 hours. If the air temperature is more than 80 degrees F, that time shrinks to 1 hour. If you're not sure if a food product is perishable, please play it safe and consider it so.

When packing foods to go on trips and picnics, make sure that perishable foods are packed on the bottom of the cooler, topped with lots of ice packs or frozen packs.

Wash your hands after handling raw eggs; in fact, wash your hands often whenever you're baking. Follow storage instructions to the letter, and don't break any of these rules! Here's to a safe, happy, healthy summer!
