Resume Writing Tips & Information

Do you have a draft resume that contains all of the right information, but is not completely pleasing to the eye? If so, all you may need to do to go from a good resume to a great one is a few formatting tricks. Resume writers use them all the time. The difference between getting an interview and landing in the reject pile sometimes comes down to how easy your resume is to read.

Does your resume only slightly exceed one page? If so, consider playing around with font sizes and margins to make it fit to one page.

Does the important information stand out on your resume? If not, consider utilizing text effects like bolding and italicizing to enhance certain aspects. If the name of your former employer is important, put it in bold. If your current job title is impressive, try italicizing it. Use these text effects together for even more impact, but don't overdo it. Too many text effects can make everything stand out, which is no better than doing nothing in the first place.

For more details on these and other resume writing tips, see the article "How to Format a Resume," which discusses this topic in depth.
