James Madison, the fourth President of the United States, was a close friend of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Alexander Hamilton. But Madison and Patrick Henry were bitter enemies. Madison devised the "Virginia Plan," which became the major basis for the revision of the Constitution. As president, he called for war with Briton in 1812.
