Grey’s Anatomy Goes Camping

The “Grey’s Anatomy” episode “Where the Boys Are” (original air date November 9, 2006) was shot on location in serene North Bend, Washington. If you were lucky enough to be watching the show, you saw the beautifully selected locations that represent Washington proudly. The camping, fishing and bridge scenes were all shot in the surrounding area of the Middle Fork Trail Head in North Bend.

If you missed this episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” here are the highlights of the show, as well as an overview of the camping lessons the guys learn:

The men of “Grey’s Anatomy” decide to go camping to “get way from it all.” Instead, they realize “it all” has followed them. Why? Most simply, Dr. Shepherd (McDreamy) invites Dr. Burke, who has to invite The Chief, and also slips in an invitation to Dr. O'Malley. Somehow, Dr. O’Malley invites Dr. Karev, plus the homosexual couple that owns the local pub. They can’t get away from it all, because all the men they know are on the trip. Way too much testosterone!

Basic camping lesson number one: too much testosterone will ruin a camping trip. However, I am positive that if the boys had taken their girlfriends instead, they would have had fun and at the very least would have made it through the night. But who would have run the hospital (more on this later)?

Basic camping lesson number two: too many people fishing at one site will scare away the fish. Even I know this! All of the men were fishing in the same area and therefore, none of the guys caught any fish.

Basic camping lesson number three: “cotton kills.” Don’t wear cotton camping. Cotton will not insulate and you will get very cold (two of the surgeons were not properly prepared for their camping experience).

Next, because there are so many guys (back to basic camping lesson number one), a fight breaks out between Dr. O’Malley and Dr. Karev. So, despite the unbelievably gorgeous Snoqualmie River and the perfectly snow dipped mountains in the background, the trip is called a wash and the group decides to head back to Seattle.

By the way (this is kind of off topic), but what day of the week is it? I assume that it is the weekend, because five surgeons (two of them surgical interns) are off. But then how come Dr. Sloan (McSteamy), a plastic surgeon, is performing elective surgery? I can’t think of a single plastic surgeon that performs elective surgery on the weekends. Oh well, I’m a bit too literal sometimes…

Still it is the choice location of North Bend, Washington that is amazing to see! To visit the spectacular location personally, check out Middle Fork Trail Head for more information.

Unfortunately, I have been told that this area is currently under a whole lot of water. Definitely check it out before you make the drive. Or wait until spring, when this episode airs again. I promise to let you know the date. It is most definitely worth watching (even if you have absolutely no idea what the difference is between a McDreamy and a McSteamy)!
