His surprise was the announcement that the stage of the new Schermerhorn Symphony Center was being named the Amy Grant Performance Platform, in recognition of her generosity to the symphony. She helped the symphony overcome bankruptcy in the 1980s and continues to be a longtime supporter.
"Without Amy's generosity, I dare say the Nashville Symphony may not be in existence today. She has been very kind to the orchestra, and the very least we could do is name the performance platform-a place where magic will happen at the new Schermerhorn Symphony Center-in honor of her," said Valentine.
Grant was host to the second evening in three opening weekend galas for the Nashville Symphony's new home, Schermerhorn Symphony Center. Among her guests were her husband, Vince Gill, LeAnn Rimes and Michael W. Smith.
