Passion 07: Do Something Now

Passion Conference founder/director Louie Giglio highlighted individual and group commitments made for Passion 07’s Do Something Now campaign during the morning General Session and gave a taste of how the result will look and sound in the evening General Session.

“Through a window in the Georgia World Congress Center, I could see that they stopped letting people go into the Global Awakening area until others came out,” said Giglio. “How many places do you see a thousand people waiting in such a line?”

Throughout Passion 07, students were encouraged to explore opportunities to impact lives worldwide through the Do Something Now campaign. The Global Awakening: The World Mobilization Area at Passion 07 served as the hub for the campaign.

Visitors to the area were greeted by the initial campaign outpouring of thousands of towels and socks for Atlanta’s needy that students brought upon arrival to the gathering. By the start of yesterday’s morning session, an overwhelming response to many of the initiatives included:

· 38 water wells purchased for Africa (asked students for 11 wells)

· All the bricks in support of the Freedom Center for the Kurdish people in Northern Iraq were sponsored.

· An overwhelming number of pledges were committed for not only the translation of New Testament Scriptures for the Dela people of Indonesia, but for the Rikou people of Indonesia as well.

· A donor was prepared to match the number of sponsored life-changing surgeries for children with 100 sponsors already committed.

Giglio brought Passion 07’s challenge for global impact back around in the evening General Session. “There is a massive worldwide after-party. It’s called heaven. The invitations are going out in every single language, and those who have the story need to take the story to the nations, to the 6,800 people groups that don’t yet have the gospel. God is asking many of us to pack up the ‘American Dream’ and is extending the invitation to go to the unreached people groups of the world.”

Passion 07 opened Monday at the Philips Arena and Georgia World Congress Center in downtown Atlanta with 23,000 in attendance and students representing 50 states, 33 countries and 1,165 campuses. Passion 07 is a four-day indoor gathering for college students and is being led by renowned speakers Louie Giglio, John Piper, Francis Chan and Beth Moore, among others, as well as artist-worshipers Chris Tomlin, David Crowder Band, Charlie Hall, Matt Redman and more.
