The song was inspired by a friend’s story of a girl Manafest knew who had run away from home. She ended up living on the streets and answered an ad that was supposed to be for a dating service. This eventually led her into prostitution and before she knew it, she was working for an escort agency.
In the spiritual sense, the song also parallels how we tend to run away from God instead of running to Him, when we make mistakes or do something wrong… we hide and go farther away. God is always there with open arms ready to receive us… we just have to learn to forgive ourselves sometimes.
“We wanted this video to be authentic and make an impact,” explains Manafest. “The people who appear in the video are real street kids…they live this every day.
The video was shot in Hamilton, Ontario and was directed by Chris Stacey. To create the rain, Stacey opened a nearby fire hydrant. The water was so cold, Manafest had to wear a wet suit and at one point almost passed out from the freezing water.
"Runaway" is from Manafest's latest release, "Glory." For more information about Manafest, "Glory" and “Runaway”, please visit www.manafest.ca. Click here to view the video.
