Inspired by West's latest hit single, "History," the contest will recognize unsung heroes across America who, by going the extra mile for others, are making history with their own lives.
"Since releasing my album, "History," I have had so many awesome opportunities to travel around the country and share the message of God's history-making plan for our lives, and what it means to be a true History Maker," says West. "As I travel from city to city, I have crossed paths with everyday History Makers who are making a difference in their communities, churches, and families. Just like my friend, Taylor, who overcomes Down Syndrome each day, I realize that there are people all around the world who wake up every morning, look beyond their own lives or circumstances, and reach out to the world with God's love. Through this contest, it is my hope to honor some of the unsung History Makers."
Beginning Tuesday, September 19, nominations for the "History Makers" Contest can be submitted at hearitfirst.com/historymakers. West will select 10 individuals to be recognized in December as History Makers. Winners will receive a personal call from West, public recognition of their efforts, and a prize package. Additionally, hearitfirst.com will conduct a drawing each Friday for a Matthew West Prize Pack, and the site will also feature behind the scenes exclusive interviews with West in conjunction with the contest.
Christian radio stations around the country are also presenting the "History Makers" Contest. Nominations can be submitted via participating stations, and winners will receive a prize package and public recognition of their efforts. West, who is featured on BarlowGirl's "The Don't Conform" Tour this fall, will honor a radio contest History Maker from the stage at select stops along the tour. Kicking-off tonight in Cincinnati, the 30-city tour also features Downhere. (See Suite Review of Downhere's "Wide-eyed and Mystified" here).
