I know it sounds simplistic, but it is exactly the impression created by their new 6 song EP "Above the Noise." Simplicity, yes, but packed with joyous, lyrical truths pounded out in hook-ridden rock. What can I say, the band is fun.
Four pieces conveying faith with ease and relevance, Freshsunday makes it look easy. These songs are bright, with a youthful naturalness that crosses generational lines and intelligent lyrics subtlety drawing you in. Guitar-driven opener "Not a Ghost" sets a pulsating tone for the party to come, commenting on the haunting aspects of some relationships. The slow burn of "Leaving Town" rings true to both body and soul, presenting God as the haven we need even when we don't know it. Clever "Hollywood" closes out with a shimmering buoyancy. Six songs just isn't enough.
