From the newsletter, Christine shares the following:
Over Thanksgiving break, I was fortunate enough to get into the studio again to record a new song. This project was for a non-profit organization that I've just begun to work with called "Operation Respect." Operation Respect is founded by folk legend, Peter Yarrow, and serves to create a safer, more respectful environment in schools so kids can learn free from ridicule or bullying. The program is based around the song "Don't Laugh at Me," which gives a voice to all those who have ever been bullied or made fun of and speaks volumes about the kind of respect and acceptance we all desire, no matter our religion, skin colour, body type, or disabilities.
A lyric from the song is, "Don't get your pleasure from my pain." I think this is something we can all identify with because cruelty, harassment, and discrimination are all too prevalent among young people in schools and that is a behavior or a hurt that can be then carried on into the rest of a person's life. The song is so versatile that it's been done as a folk song, a country song, and a rap song, so I thought "Hey, why not rock it up a bit!?" I was once again in great company with my producer, Tom Hall, musicians Gary Shelton, Ben Smith, and Don Garberg, and of course my dog, Bear. :)
I'm currently back at school right now finishing up the last two weeks of the semester, but plan on getting back in the studio in December to record some new tunes of my own, which I am VERY excited about. So keep your eyes out for the new remix of "Don't laugh at me" to be released soon and also some new tunes in the near future!
