The 5-year old ministry is fronted by two rappers, "Riz" (founder Eddie Cortes) and the Prophecyer (Jeremiah Smaha) and backed soundly by Christian, Izzy and Remy who handle the production and promotion chores. They're a team with a mission: to communicate the Gospel. Their deeply Scriptural rap flows from within a high-energy poppin' package. "Warriors" mixes soft hooks and meaty battle metaphors to get the straight-up truth out. The high-energy Latin-flavored "The Rebirth" is, as the song says, "aimed at the souls of men." They don't forget their mission for a minute, even as they put out potent beats and rapid-fire lines. The gentler "Introspect" slows things down to ask the hard questions, the poetry spewing from heart of deep passion and sincerity. Carriers of the Cross are making it work for their East Coast audiences, showing up on the 33 cities of the eXtreme Tour. Look for the full-length "Against the Grain" in stores this October.
